Who Is Japheth Omojuwa?

Japheth Omojuwa is a social commentator, public speaker, farmer, philanthropist, media entrepreneur, blogger, social media influencer and expert. He is the CEO of Alpha Reach and a lm author on numerous reputable local and international newspapers.

Early Life

Japheth Joshua Omojuwa was born on 3rd October, 1984 in Lagos.

He attended Kings college(1995-2001), Lagos for his secondary education before heading to Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta to major in Agricultural Economics(2004-2009) where he finished with a Second Class Upper Division. During his undergraduate studies, he worked at Newbreeze World under the Brand Development and Public Relations department.

Career

He is currently a sought after speaker at top symposiums, conferences and university events. He is the founder and chief strategist of Alpha Reach.

Alpha Reach is a Public Relations consulting firm that has been around for over 9 years, offering services such as perception management, social media marketing, reputation management, Digital marketing, strategic online communications, brand management, training, web design/development, research and insight, online users education, build company niche and increase company teach. It’s top clients include Nigerian Ports Authority, Zamfara State Government, MTN, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development, Lagos State Government and Heritage Bank.

In February 2012, J.J worked as a consultant for the Heinrich Boll Foundation, working on the #GreenDealNigeria project and promoting social media presence.

In 2013, J.J Omojuwa was a panelist at the United Nations General Assembly in NewYork. Here, he discussed about data science and it’s importance in the political landscape. This year, he also lectured at Free University, Berlin on Africa – Democratic Prospects and Challenges for over a year. He also attended Africa’s number 1 practical school for brand excellence, Orange Academy. Here, he took a marketing communications course.

In 2014, Japheth was invited to the African Union as a panelist for the Africa Re-imagination Creation Hub, where he was tasked with forging a policy for Africa 2063 Framework.

In 2015 elections the media space was very influencial in the run up to the general elections. Omojuwa was an active voice on social media. He has over 200k followers on twitter, giving him the audience to influence affairs of the nation with his progressive views. He was active during the Occupy Nigeria protests and his criticism of the Jonathan administration coupled with his relationship with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has endeared him to supporters of the APC.

In 2016, Omojuwa enrolled and completed the United States’ International Visitors Leaders Programme. The alumni of this program is highly commendable, it includes three hundred former Heads of States or Government.

The London school of Economics and Political Science Africa Summit was held on the 22nd and 23rd of April, 2016. The event gathered leaders in science and technology, politics and academia at the London campus to discuss “ Africa Within a Global Context”. Japheth Omojuwa was chosen to be a panelist at this event alongside notable names like Atiku Abubakar, Hakeem Bello-Osagie, Vera Songe and Parminder Vir.

Japheth is the founder of Omojuwa Foundation, he also volunteers for the NGO. OmojuwaFDN, is a nonprofit organization that promotes education in underprivileged communities. It aims to foster education and business by providing grants. It’s target is to break the circle of poverty in Nigeria’s worst affected communities.  So far, 41 SME businesses have benefited from this scheme. The foundation recognizes the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and it plans on working to create policies bordered around wealth creation.

In 2017, he started a hashtag Support for Small businesses #SBS2017 on twitter. He released instructions to small business owners on the platform on how to win funding from him. Eventually, 70% of the grant winners were women, and the businesses ranged from confectionery shops to beauty salons and printing services.

Recently the Kaduna State Government under the stewardship of Nasir El-Rufai announced Omojuwa as a member of the Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship governing board. This programme is scheduled to commence June 2018.

He will be speaking on the topic “Towards a Prosperous & Integrated Africa” at University of Nottingham’s Africa Summit scheduled to take place 15th June, 2018.He is a columnist on Viewpoint, a section of the Punch newspapers hat deals with social economic and political every Wednesday.

He continues to write for notable newspapers and online media such as BBC, ThisDay, Vanguard, Sahara Reporters, The Financial Times and Naij.  

Personal Life

Recently Omojuwa was interviewed about his role in Nigeria’s public space, Nigerian polity and the state of the youth.

On his personality, he reiterated that he is an entrepreneur and not a politician as popularly perceived among some quarters. He said he believes value creation and fearless active citizenry has played a major role in his success with the new generation of Nigerians. He strongly advocated for restructuring of the country and supported the Not Too Young To Run Campaign.

He shared his passion for graphic design and art. He also loves dressing well.

During his Kings college days, Japheth was a member of the football team and the famous relay race team. He remains an enthusiastic sports fan. He is a die hard Arsenal fan.He believes socialism is an outdated political system that isn’t sustainable anymore, he leans towards free markets.

Above all, he loves his family and Nigeria very much.

Japheth Omojuwa is engaged to long time girlfriend Ogunleye Damilola, a Covenant university alumna. He proposed to her with an 18 carat ring byy Rebecca Noff

Awards and Recognition

In 2012, he was listed among the most influential Nigerian youth in technology by YNaija. He was also listed by the World Economic Forum as a Global Shaper. A recognition given out to youth people impacting significantly to their communities globally.In 2015, Omojuwa was listed among the 50 Movers and Shakers from Africa by Credit Suisse Bulletin.In 2016, reputable cognac company Remy Martin named Japheth as a brand influencer. This is in recognition of his extraordinary work as a youth leader.

This year, he also won Best Twitter Personality (African Bloggers Award) from the Bill and Melinda Foundation.

In 2018, Urbangeekz names Japheth Omojuwa as one of 20 Diverse Influencers to Watch this Year.
